A Review of the Pillowpak

By Jessica Shouse

If you are looking for a new, super versatile on the go bag, the Pillowpak is it! “The World’s first travel bag centered around your pillow.” With a 3-day travel capacity Pillowpak was designed with the entire family in mind. “Born from the idea that home is where you pack it, Pillowpak is designed to accommodate a range of needs. Lightweight, expandable and multi-functional.” Perfect for your next overnight camping trip, business trip, girl’s night or the kids next soccer game. There is more than enough space to pack all your essentials.

Pillowpak is compact enough you can use it as a carry-on bag, avoiding those pesky bag fees. While the designers had packing a pillow in mind, the Pillowpak’s multiple compartments allow for organization of clothes, winter gear, sports equipment, personal electronics, and most anything else you need to bring along on your next adventure or outing.

“Featuring two large internal pockets, a padded laptop sleeve, and four external pockets, Pillowpak is more than just a backpack for your pillow.”

Here are some key features of the Pillowpak:

  • Easy access pillow storage compartment
  • Top-loading zipper, with roll-top compression
  • 23” x 16” x 5.2”
  • 6 lbs (25 oz)
  • Lightweight nylon diamond ripstop fabric
  • Adjustable strap system
  • Locking zippers
  • Reflective gear loops
  • Machine washable
  • Multiple organizational features
  • Toiletry pocket
  • Phone, earbud, charger pocket
  • Keepsake pocket
  • Large mesh water bottle pocket
  • 2 D-rings for attachment of accessories

I used my Pillowpak for a recent overnight trip where I set up camp in a friend’s backyard space. In the main compartment I packed my clothing. My planner and laptop fit nicely in the padded sleeve. In the four front pockets I packed my personal care items, including COVID-19 essentials, headphones, and phone charger. Last but not least, I easily packed my favorite pillow in the back compartment. I am someone who prefers to have my own pillow when I travel. If you are like me, you will love the Pillowpak. At just $49.99, it is a must-have.

Pillowpak can be used as a duffel, sling bag or as a backpack. If you don’t want to use the pillow compartment for your pillow, you have even more room for clothing or anything you might not want in the main compartment. When you are all done, Pillowpak rolls up and cinches down for easy, compact storage. “Simply roll and stow it and you’re ready to go.”

In addition to the main pack, the PIllowpak comes with several well thought of, useful accessories including; a Cubepak, a packing cube, a shoe bag, and a large utility bag.

For this trip, in the utility bag I packed my favorite blanket. It would also work perfect for extra protection for your pillow, as a laundry bag, or as a ball bag. In the shoe bag, I packed my trail runners. I really love this accessory. As an avid hiker, trail runner and lover of dirt, I’ve always struggled with finding the best spot to pack my dirty shoes when I travel. The shoe bag is such a convenient solution!

The Cubepak is a “stowable Pillowpak packing cube/ day pack.” The Cubepak is ultralightweight, machine washable and features modular strap design. This is the perfect accessory for a day shopping with friends, a day at the lake or out on the trail. I used my Cubepak for a few Colorado hiking essentials including my jacket, water bottle, snacks, trial guide, camera and a couple personal spiritual items I always take along.

The packing cube organizer also comes in handy. It features two “quick clip” attach points. These can be used to attach to the main Pillowpak backpack and/or hanging from a tent roof for easy access. The packing cube is perfect for towels and larger personal care items that do not fit in the front pockets of the main bag. I used my packing cube for items such as sunscreen, after sun care, bug spray, and lotion. This is a versatile accessory that can be used for many travel essentials.

I must say, I was very impressed with the Pillowpak backpack and included accessories. This is a great product with intentional functionality and endless uses. “With a focus on functions, outdoor lifestyle and fashion, Pillowpak is the ultimate minimal, lightweight, washable and collapsible backpack.”

Hello everyone! It’s been great seeing Jessy’s awesome review of the Pillowpak and collection, and as a small start up brand, we really value all of the feedback everyone has left in the comments section. We personally use our pillowpaks routinely for camping (just finished a month long camping trip with our 3 kids up to Glacier NP) and it is exciting to see others using them in similar fashion.

While camping season may be slowing down as we head into fall, if anyone decides they just can’t wait to get their own, we set up a 20% discount code that that will be active for a few months:

The best part about this are the multiple bags you get to stow your belongings. It is amazing to see how well it fits into that one single sack, making it a tad bit better than the regular knapsack. I will be keeping an eye out for this for sure. Very well demonstrated

This looks perfect backpack and we can organize things really well. I loved the different cubes which can be arranged as per our needs. I have always used cubes in my suitcase but never tried this kind of backpack. But Pillowpak really looks easy to use and organize things. For camping it looks very useful.

I prefer to take some of my personal things on my travels and this definitely looks great to pack a lot of essentials. I love the fact that it comes with multiple layers and serves many purposes. Cubepak, a packing cube, a shoe bag, and a large utility bag – the accessories that come along with it make it all the more promising.

This sounds like a good all around carry-on bag. I love that it is lightweight but has lots of places to store things. Especially the spot for shoes! We too love our own pillows so this might answer the question of how to travel with them and keep them clean.

That backpack looks a lot like my next weekend bag. I love that it comes with all those accessories, usually you would have to buy them on their own. I just wish they came with a compression bag for some of the largest things to pack, but other than that it looks great. I really want to try it on a few trips.

I always love the top rolling zipper feature in back packs. They are super versatile from being super compact to being a large ruck-sack. I’ve been planning to get one as my current backpack has started to give up and Pillowpak looks like a good option. I like how it comes with included accessories. Shoe bag, utility bag & packing cube are well thought of additions.

This looks like a great option for those who are looking for new travel bags. We still travel with a hiking pack more often than not simply because I like it better than traditional luggage whenever possible – but this would be a happy medium between the two!

Space for your own pillow…interesting. Great for not just camping but short travels too. I know some folks that take their own bedding to hotels. This would suit them well.

I absolutely love finding unique bags and backpacks to try out on my trips and I’ve not come across the Pillowpak before! It’s great that it fits the packing cubes inside – I’ve just become aware of packing cubes and I think they’re great. It looks like a very sturdy bag as well which is fantastic if you’re in the outdoors.
