Anyone who has slept on an air mattress for an extended period of time can attest to how much it changes over time. It will feel supportive until it does not. Sovieluften’s goal is to create a solution to this problem, a tensioned cover that will put tension on the air mattress to both protect it and to prevent the sides from sagging out. I was excited to try this out when asked to write a review. As someone who enjoys adventure, I have found myself in many situations when I needed a portable bed solution.

The Soveiluften Camping Air Mattress Cover
The cover is made out of a durable poly/cotton blend and normally comes in either green or black but color varies depending on inventory. The website offers the cover in twin, full, and queen sizes to fit an 8- or 10-inch mattress. I have a tall queen size with a built-in pump so they made one to specifically fit my mattress with the hole positioned to accommodate the pump and cord. It also has a zipper on one side to fully enclose the mattress. They custom make each cover after it is ordered. The cover works by creating tension over the high points of the mattress, similar to a cot. Besides preventing the sides from deforming the cover, it also protects from holes brought about from everyday use.
Trying It Out
The camping air mattress cover arrived within a week of when I confirmed the size of my mattress. I’m an avid sewer and had to take time to admire the neatness of the seams and zipper on this product. It was well done. I could tell this product was made with quality in mind. Soveiluften recommends using a new air mattress right out of the box to ensure it is in good shape. I used one I already had since I was not in the market for a new one so I will take that into account with this experience.
To use this product, you insert your air mattress before inflating it. This may be one of those things that would be easier done with a nicely folded mattress from a box rather than the one I had sitting on my shelf unused for a year. This step took some creativity and skill. I ended up placing the cover on top of another queen size bed, I was then able to partially unfold the mattress, line up the hole for the pump, and insert it into the cover. I then crawled inside to spread it out fully. Once it was inside I plugged it in, inflated it most of the way, adjusted the cover, and then fully inflated the mattress.
Once it was set up, I utilized the mattress for some R&R time over the next few weeks to see how it felt and held up. Using the cover provided a firmer surface than the mattress alone. It seems I have a small hole in my mattress as it slowly deflated each day but I was able to quickly air it up with no issues. My pup could not leave the pad alone (one reason that it has been on the shelf for over a year unused, we didn’t think it would survive the puppy) and the cover protected it well.

Soveiluften recommends adding a topper and a pad. I did not have these but can see how they would be a great option if you need to use this for a longer-term. I was able to deflate the mattress and store it inside the cover then easily inflate again. This will make using it easier once you get past the initial setup. My Recommendation
This cover could be a great solution in situations when you need to use an air mattress for a longer period of time or frequently. At one time I worked away from home for months at a time and needed a portable bed, this option with the topper would have been a fantastic solution.
The lower profile mattresses could also be used to replace a camper mattress. The price of the covers starts at $120 for a twin and increases from there so it is a significant investment. The price does make sense considering they are custom-made. They do not offer returns on their product since they are made to order though so before making this purchase, I would want to make sure I was fully committed to it.

The Soveiluften Camping Air Mattress Cover sounds like a great product. I haven’t done camping for a while because of the pandemic. I’ll definitely keep this review and consider it when I’m ready to buy new camping equipment.

I do recommend an air mattress straight from the box to cover because “anything” can puncture thin plastic. By far though, preventing side wall deformation is what will save your back. the cover sounds pretty neat! I was thinking to find something like that to allow my dog to sleep with us during camping trips (he gets older and became less tolerant to the cold)
Camping is so much fun. However, comfort can be an issue in such situations. Having a good portable camping air mattress and cover can make a real difference.

What an interesting combination to make an air mattress much more comfortable. I’ve never been interested in getting an air mattress because they deteriorate after a few months but this solution looks amazing.

That is the reason we use ours as well. We have left it set up in our TV room for a few weeks and my son loves to let some air our to make it just soft enough for him. The cover adds tension to make this comfortable. It has been fun to play with.

Air mattresses are normally for camping, but we have one we occasionally use in the house, too. The kiddos will use it for sleepovers. And adding a cover could make for a more comfortable night’s rest.
