There’s something magical about the great outdoors. That in itself isn’t surprising at all. Camping offers you the ultimate opportunity to enjoy the fascinating outdoors, bond with your friends or even kick back and relax far away from all the hustle and bustle of life and work. But here’s the thing: without fun outdoor activities, camping can sometimes turn into a bit of a dull and boring day out there.

Looking for fun outdoor activities to take your camping experience to a whole new and exhilarating level? If yes, then your search is finally over as we’ve compiled a list of exhilarating outdoor activities: games, outdoor sports, water activities, and so forth to help you have the time of your life. Trust us; these activities will knock your friends, family or colleagues socks off.

Water Activities

Are you camping close to a water body – river, lake, ocean, sea, and so on? If yes, then the following exhilarating outdoor activities will be your best shot at having so much fun.

Fishing

exhilarating outdoor activities 2Are there any sport fishing enthusiasts in the house? If fishing tickles your fancy, then doing it while camping with your friends is certainly going to be fun. A lot of fun. Let’s be honest; sports fishing can be a little challenging for newbies, but that is what makes it so much exciting and rewarding. Sure it can be frustrating sometimes. Sure it calls for utmost patience. But, when you land that first catch – oh, dear, there is no feeling quite like it.

Want to make fishing even more fun? You can make a game out of it. How about the traditional “who will catch the biggest fish” challenge? With such a fun approach to fishing, you’ll see minutes turn into hours and hours into a day. Needless to say, doldrums of everyday life will fade away like a cloud of smoke.

Swimming

exhilarating outdoor activities 3Swimming is universal, to say the least. The magical allure of swimming lies in the fact that it’s calming, enjoyable, and relaxing. As if that isn’t fabulous enough, it can also help you get in shape or maintain fitness. And who wouldn’t want to get that summer bod?

A Recent study by Mayo Clinic has shown that swimming in free-flowing water can be magnificent for your overall health. Being in contact with cold water excites your parasympathetic nervous system, a section of the central nervous system that has the ability to restore your brain’s calm and relaxed state. So, swimming out there while camping can help you keep stress and anxiety at bay. Remember of course to swim in water bodies that are swim-safe.

exhilarating outdoor activities 10Build Sand Castles

If you have been to a beach camp, you’d know that building sand castles can be quite scintillating. Don’t forget it’s all about fun. Even better, build a sand structure over someone. It will be photogenic too.

Skip Stones

While safety is the name of the game here, skipping stones is one of the best make-up games in a camping experience. Make a game out of it to add a little flair to skipping stones. Adults are advised to take it easy on youngsters, though.

exhilarating outdoor activities 11Water Skiing and Windsurfing

If you brought your gear to the camp, windsurfing and water skiing could make for the best outdoor activities for an unforgettable camping experience.

Aqua Zorbing

exhilarating outdoor activities 4Aqua Zorbing has gained increased traction with most camps that cater to families. What is Aqua Zorbing? As extreme as it might sound, aqua zorbing or aqua sphereing is a game where individuals try to roll on a floating orb.

Other worthy water activities include floating, lounging, riding a wave runner, canoeing, kayaking, boating, playing water polo, diving, snorkelling, and so on.

Games: not always exhilarating outdoor activities…

OK – so not all games are exactly exhilarating outdoor activities, but depending on who you are with and what they enjoy, some in-tent games can help pass the time on rainy days. Here are ideas in that regard:

Card Games

exhilarating outdoor activities 5Card games – from Solitaire to Poker and everything in between – have been part of camping for a long time now. They never lose taste, but if you aren’t a fan of card games, you can watch others play. Even better, pick sides.

Board Games

No camp is complete without board games. They are not only fun but also quite engaging. So, prepare that picnic table for the time of your life. No-brainer tip: be careful as pieces can get lost out there.

You can also try: character-based games, Hangman, connect the dots, and Tic-Tac-Toe.

Physical Activities and Sports

Outdoor sports and camping are truly a match made in heaven. The good news is that there is a wide variety of physical activities and sports that you can engage in while camping. This is truly where exhilarating outdoor activities can really come into their own. So, get up and choose your favorite activity.

  • Rock Climbing

Out there you access different rock and hills to enjoy this activity according to your own skill and adventure level.

  • Tree Climbing

Camping in the forest will give you a charge to exercise you fitness. Different trees are there for you to choose the fit one and height for you.

And the list of ideas just goes on…

  • Frisbee Golf
  • Ringtoss
  • Hillbilly Golf
  • Follow the Leader
  • Horseshoes
  • Biking
  • Baseball
  • Hiking

Brainstorm with your group what else could be on your own list before your next trip.

Of course, you could also want to try some extreme exhilarating outdoor activities, many of which are not included in this article and if so, then check out some really extreme options here.

Outdoor sports and physical activities are somewhat competitive in nature, so create teams to compete in each set of activities. Winners can be awarded a small prize like not washing dishes for a day.

Make yours a life full of fun and adventure!

I loved all the options for outdoor activities mentioned here and it is great you have shared together all those activities in one post, as sometimes we forget some activites. Card games and board games are my favorite and so that would be my first thing to do when I will go for camping. Building sand castles on beach camp is also my choice too. Frisbee Golf is also a good idea.

Oh yes, what fun is camping without the outdoor adventures. You got to do some fishing, some hiking and some water activities to make the best of it. I love fishing and have tried couple of times without camping too. Board games and card games in the lap of nature are great fun. Aqua Zorbing looks great. I would like to do that whenever possible.Tree climbing and rock climbing are great ideas too.

Some very nice ideas here to make camping even more exciting. When one is camping with friends and family a game of cards or a board game is always some happy moments together. But I prefer the outdoors more to indoors. Even in the evenings some bonfire, music looks more exciting to me.Fishing and Kayaking which I have have never done before, i would look forward to doing sometime.

I am considering taking a camping trip soon as a little mini getaway. It was great to find out all the great activities that you can do while camping. We usually enjoy tubing or kayaking. However I had not hear of Aqua Zorbing and it sounds so fun – I will need to research places around me that offer this activity as I think my kids will have a blast with it.

From all outdoor activities, I am more into swimming especially if the location is the beach. It is truly relaxing, and fun especially playing with kids and building castles out of sand.

We would normally gravitate to water activities if we went camping. Always great to find spots with wonderful swimming. But I must admit I just don’t get fishing! But then Aqua Zorbing looks like a lot of fun. I would love to find camping spots with good biking trails close by. An easy way to get some exercise and see the area. All great options when you get tired of staring at a camp fire!

I love the outdoors for the outdoor activities mostly. Among the water sports, I love kayaking and snorkeling the most. And if not that, then rock climbing or hiking it is. Not a big fan of indoor games when camping. I rather in that case, lounge by the fire and watch the stars 😉
