Spouti Launch for Outdoorsy Women

Spouti Launch heralds Revolutionary STP Device

A familiar problem

Spouti Launch 1
Spouti™ is 100% external. It seats around your urethra without making direct contact. The flexible silicone tubing provides plenty of clearance and can be easily tucked away when you are done.

Since all of you here are involved in outdoor activities, you don’t need me to tell you that finding a restroom when you have to go is not always easy out in the woods. For sure, you can try and find a rock, or a bush, or a really wide tree and then you hope no one comes by while you drop your drawers, balance yourself for a squat that, hopefully, aims everything far enough away that you don’t dribble on your pants, then pull out the toilet paper and bury that….

You know the drill. It sucks. It’s gross. It’s kind of dangerous if we’re being honest. So, people started coming up with stand-to-pee devices. I call them STPs for short. Shewee, GoGirl, Peebol – there are hundreds out there, all variations on the same theme: a funnel you can pee through. They work in some ways but have a lot of shortcomings. You still have to lower your pants. If you pee too hard there is backflow and spills. If you don’t get the right angle you get your pants wet. When you are done there is uncomfortable wetness unless you have toilet paper handy. Then, to add insult to injury, you have to shake off the rest of the urine and put the pee-funnel into your pack, bag, purse – whatever it is you are using to hold your items at the time.

It’s still gross. It still sucks. And you still have to expose yourself just to take a quick pee.

Devising a solution

Spouti launch 2
Spouti™ is roughly 4cm long and made from squishy, medical-grade silicone so it can be worn discreetly and comfortably

So, a year and a half ago I got sick of dealing with gross, wet, STPs and I created a new design.

I call it Spouti! Spouti is much smaller than the average pee-funnel. Instead of having to cover your entire downstairs in a funnel, hoping you make a good seal, Spouti sits between your legs. The small cup at the top seals around your urethra to make a pathway for urine. You pee, it goes into Spouti, out the 10 inches of flexible tubing, and far away from your body.

There are no leaks. There is no wet post-pee puddle that needs to be wiped clean. And you don’t even have to pull down your pants. Spouti goes on in the morning and you can wear it all day. I chose the softest silicone we could get so when you wear Spouti it fades into the background like it isn’t even there. I’ve done extensive testing, both personally and with external testers. I went backpacking along the AT – 3 days, 22 miles. I wore Spouti every day and it was a lifesaver. I stayed hydrated and if I needed to take a quick pee? No problem – I just stepped up to a rock or a tree, unzipped my pants, pulled out the tube, peed, and I was on my way again.

Spouti launch 3
Spouti™ can be worn all day long. The cup creates a seal around your urethra and is supported by the surrounding labia and pressure from the thighs giving you the ability to pee confidently even after walking for miles. Show your support and be a part of the Spouti launch.

It may be strange to be passionate about something like an STP – but I am. I am reaching out every chance I get to ask for your help. I have started a Kickstarter to raise the money I need to fund my first production run. I have a contract lined up with a silicone molding company – once we get the funding they will cast the mold and we’ll get our Spouties back in a couple of weeks.

We just reached 20% funded and it would mean everything to me if you would help me get the remaining 80%. You can read through our website (www.myspouti.com) – I have documented a ton of information about how to wear Spouti, what it feels like, what it is made out of – we even have a detailed section that walks you through how to find your urethra. It took me a little bit of time to find my own, but now? I can get Spouti on in 20 seconds, pull up my pants, and I am ready to STP.

I believe in making things affordable – if you make a pledge of $40 or more on Kickstarter you get a personalized referral link. If you share that link and get 5 other people to make a pledge of $40 or more you get $40 back.

This is a product we need, this is a product we deserve. Thank you for helping me bring it to life!

Here is the link to the Kickstarter where you can make your pledge!!

Wow! What a thoughtful and innovative design. I would definitely try one of these if I planned on being out in the woods all day!

This made for an educational read for me. It is an eye-opener for peeing in the great outdoors. I always was envious of the guys who can pee without having to remove pants and checking the grounds for snakes first. All the best for your funding of this revolutionary product!

This is such an interesting concept. I tried a she-pee funnel at Glastonbury, it was ok for me but my friend missed. I’ll definitely look at this STP as an alternative. Good luck with your new project!

This is a game changer! I truly want to try this out! That whole bathroom issue is the only thing that makes me think twice about hardcore nature adventures.

I have personally used some of the devices you mentioned and while they work they each have issues. It is great to see a new product coming out in the market that has the potential to solve all the problems and make it more convenient for women to pee while out in the outdoors.

This is very helpful for adventurous outdoorsy women. I’m a dude and I hate the outdoors because of restroom issues lol I can only imagine how ladies would feel. I know a lot of ladies who love the great outdoors will definitely share this post with them and hopefully they find this post useful.

For me it’s a much bigger problem to find a clean toilet (or one at all!) when I am in civilization. Finding the “right” rock or tree when I’m in the woods seems a much easier job. However, I think your idea is great and you should definitely implement it. For women it’s so much more difficult to pee than for men.

I understand what you are talking about with the funnel things because though I don’t camp, I used to be a distance runner and hated taking my pants down to pee in a bush. But it sounds like this thing you have come up with is even better than the funnel!

Thank you! We really worked hard to make Spouti™ as comfortable and versatile as possible!

We’ve had a ton of fun creating Spouti™ and it’s been truly touching to see the full extent of our impact. We recently learned that Spouti™ will be able to help people in wheelchairs…

We value quality, it is immensely rewarding to see those values pay off so quickly!

No kidding! Standing to pee is even faster than sitting to pee – it’s a lot of fun to see the look on your friends faces when you get in and out faster than they do! 😀

I must admit that I bought one of the large STP devices. And never could get around to using it. I just hope I can find a spot with privacy to squat. The Spouti looks like a better option with a tube to take the urine away. I am just not sure about wearing this all day!

Hello Linda! I personally wear Spouti™ throughout the day when I am out running errands or doing various things, but it’s not required.

We worked very hard to identify how soft the silicone needed to be to ensure that Spouti™ would be comfortable to wear for extended periods of time during a variety of activities.

For example, our first models were made of silicone that was Shore A 10 (this is the measurement for how hard or soft it is) and we ended up dropping it down to Shore A 3. The Shore A 10 was fairly comfortable, but it didn’t meet our standards for long term wear.

With the current Shore A 3 Spouti™ is practically unnoticeable, and that was really important to us.

We don’t currently have a carry case, but we may consider it in the future for people who would like to use Spouti™ on a more “as needed” basis!

Great concept and useful for outdoor women. I wish you the best of luck on your launch because it is the worst to have no toilet while camping in the woods. This would be a great addition to any camping trip.

      Thank you Laura!

We ran a bit short on time for the Kickstarter – it was our first so we had a huge learning curve!

However, we have begun the production process anyway and we have pre-order options available on the website with the Kickstarter prices until the end of November

I have my home-made model that I use all the time, but I am definitely looking forward to having my first production made Spouti™ for my next camping trip!

Spouti sounds like a great pee funnel. I’ve heard of so many but have never tried one. I’m always tempted to try one for my camping/backpacking experiences, but haven’t tried it yet. This one sounds like a great design. I hope you get the funding to launch soon!

Spouti seems great for women who spend many hours outdoors without access to a restroom. It’s a must have for long hikes and camping.

Indeed! We have quite a few purchasers from Europe who have mentioned lack of restroom access as part of wanting to get Spouti™. We’ve also found that Spouti™ can help people who struggle with wheelchair accessible restrooms!

I hadn’t heard about them myself until roughly 6 years ago! I had a friend who would go hunting and she had one she used every now and then and I just could never get used to it.

Fast forward to today and I finally made one that I like!
