While indoor entertainment can help you decrease your stress levels and relax after a hard day at work, there are few things better for you than being outdoors. The combination of natural light, fresh air, and physical activity make outdoor experiences a great way to spend your weekend while keeping yourself healthy. If you’re interested in going on a weekend trip, look no further – here are some steps to help you plan your mini-vacation, as well as some of the benefits of various forms of outdoor activities.

Plan out your itinerary

Before you begin your adventure, it is always helpful to plan your itinerary first. That way, you will be able to stay on or under your budget and maximize the amount of time you spend doing things that interest you, rather than just aimlessly driving or walking around. Start by picking out a place or region that interests you. It can be something as simple as a jaunt an hour north to a nearby city, or a trip down to the beach. (Be sure not to get too far – as long as your car gets good gas mileage, driving will generally be more cost-effective than flying, so you’ll have to also manage the round-trip drive time when planning your adventure.)

Next, you’ll need to find a place to stay. If you plan on spending a good deal of time indoors, you can pick a hotel. However, if you want to save money, you might consider staying with a friend or family member who lives in the area. There are also apps such as Airbnb that will allow you to stay with some of the residents of the area in question often for a good deal less money than at a traditional hotel.

Choose how you will occupy your time

Once you have the broad outline of your trip planned, you can start to narrow down the ways you will choose to spend your time. If you choose a more tourist-focused destination, like the beach, much of your time may be taken up on the boardwalk, laying out on the sand, and swimming in the ocean. Even if you want to go on a trip to a place with more options, be sure to leave a good portion of time free and unscheduled, so you will be able to spontaneously do something that catches your eye, or just sit back and relax in an unhurried, vacation frame of mind. Of course, each day’s events will depend on if you are going on the trip by yourself, with friends, or with your family, since each formation will have different tastes and preferences.

If your group likes to spend their vacation time outdoors on an adventure, try out something that will allow you to see the region and get some exercise at the same time. Mountain biking can be an ideal way to get fresh air and see the wonders of nature. Be sure to find the right bike for your build and style of biking before you go – research online to find one that suits your budget.

Let your mind rest

Even if your vacation only lasts the weekend, it is important to take the time to let your mind rest and relax. If you or a member of your party are in recovery from drugs or alcohol, a brief vacation can be exactly what is needed to regain a healthy frame of mind for the weeks ahead. Travel gets recovering addicts away from familiar locations that may act as triggers to use, while being outdoors has positive effects on people’s mental states and general sense of happiness.

Remember, just because you have a busy job, it doesn’t mean that there is no time for you to take a break. Mini-vacations are healthy ways for you to get out and about without spending too much money or time away from the office.

So when are you planning to take your Budget-Friendly Weekend Jaunt?

I absolutely agree with you that Outdoor action is better than indoor fun. I love relishing the combination of natural light, fresh air, and physical activity that keeps me healthy. But what I love more is the interaction I have with the people.

I would totally agree with you about how outdoor activities can be so much more energizing and refreshing! And an outdoor mini vacation planned well would be a perfect way to spent the weekend! Loved the tips shared here. Its important to plan the itinerary and decide how the time would be spent to make the best of it and have peace of mind during and after the experience. Thank you for motivating me since I had not planned much for this weekend, think I would plan something outdoors, even if it is short.

I totally agree with what you said here. A short distance weekend trip is what you need to refresh yourself. Being outside, taking in the fresh air, and natural light are the best. Like you said, it doesn’t have to be far, so it’s surely budget friendly.

A very interesting site overall and as I see more posts this only wants me to go more outdoors. I have been looking to get into camping for some time now as a great way to relax the mind in natural surroundings. As the kids get old enough to help me with the logistics I can now start to see this happening in the next summer. An easy way to get away for weekends and short breaks without breaking the bank. Great ideas – keep them coming!

I have to agree. One purpose of camping is to really rest your mind. Whenever I go camping I really enjoy it as I feel that bond with nature. It actually helps me relax my mind and takes all my stress away.

I don’t exclude outdoor activities but without planning, yup it will be not a good experience. But sometimes being spontaneous is also nice (and risky).
Paying a short trip with nature gives me a total reboot, and I love it.

I totally relate to this post on all levels. You really hit the nail on the head about finding balance between planning every detail and leaving time for spontaneity. I struggle with allowing myself to let go completely and just absorb the outdoors without thinking about work or what else I could / should be doing. I can tell when I need a trip to the great outdoors when my mental state starts slowly declining… great tips!
