Without fail, every time I go camping, a moment always comes along when I feel buoyed by the combined forces of the camping experience and say to myself, Why don’t I do this more often?
You could say I love camping for the stars, the scenery, or the s’mores (talk about motivation!), but I believe the motivation is deeper than that.

1. It’s a simple experience, and the simplicity is a healthy change from everyday life. You are required to pare life down to the simplest of things, only that which you need for a few days. When you arrive, you have your small amount of things, but you are surrounded by this big landscape, which dwarfs you and your possessions and any issues you may be facing at home or work.

Backpacking with my family in the Rocky Mountains when I was just five or six, sleeping out in the open under the stars at camp, racing horses through apple orchards with my friend Leila, camping in state parks with my sister and brother in laws and their daughters, or even times as simple as sitting on a dock fishing with my grandfather, all are treasured memories. I know that the highlight reel of my life (the real highlight reel, not just the “highlight reel” of social media) includes these moments.
And, as anyone who has ever set up a tent with another person knows, you can’t not get to know someone when you set up a tent with them! Just try it and you will know what I mean. (Same goes for field dressing an animal together…you can’t help but experience a kinship over a such a unique experience.)

I love the connection I feel with nature when I camp. I have camped several times in Lake Tahoe and Yosemite, and it was definitely more different and exciting than staying in an inn. One scary time was when bears entered our campground. Baby bears, true, but still scary. We ended up spending the night in our car instead of tent.
Well, I will be honest and tell you that I have never pitched a camp. Though I have always wanted to and now even more, after reading the advantages. I guess hard labour does make you bond and introspect as you have shared. And then, that pure wilderness is bound to be therapeutic for your hard work.
I completely agree that one must definitely try camping at least once be it a man or a woman. I have only done camping once when I was in college and we were five friends together on a dam sight with nothing else around. It is still so memorable a trip. Next time I would love to do a solo camping trip and my desire I must confess has been aroused by seeing the many adventures on this site. So thank you for that.
I love camping too. And I agree that every woman should try camping, its a lot of fun for a very cheap price. I enjoy sleeping in a tent and getting up to the most spectacular views in the morning. I have had such great memories of camping solo, with friends and with strangers.

You literally took the words out of my mouth- “pare life down to the simplest of things”. That is exactly what I love about camping! One of the best parts is the bond whether it be family or other families camping! The Rocky Mountains would be incredible to backpack through. I can’t imagine how amazing that experience probably was as a child. Very cool!
I must say that I have camped in my day. I loved those times the we could get away from the crowds and enjoy nature to ourselves. I must admit these days glamping might be more my style. But I do agree with the fact that camping can be a test of a relationship. Something invariably will not be perfect. And good to know how someone else rolls with that. Even if you can set a tent up without using the poles as weapons!
I’ll be honest, I’m more of a glamper than a camper, but I’d give it another go. My other half wants to take our kids camping and I’d also like them to experience the beauty of the wilderness. It’s a great way to escape reality for a while.
