Some awesome natural options to get rid of mosquitos! I knew that lavender was a good option but didn’t realize there were so many other ways to get rid of them too. Loved your infographic too. This was very educational.

I agree with you that many plants repel mosquitoes and it is better to use them instead of chemical repellants. As they are aromatic herbs, the air surrounding us is also full of nice aroma. Though some of these herbs are not available in India or other Asian countries but in our local places we burn Margosa(NEEM) leaves to keep the mosquitoes away.

I’m allergic to sage, but I’ll look into pennyroyal as an option. Mosquitoes can really ruin an otherwise fun hiking trip.

This is very informative! I am from Finland even though I live in California now. Finland must have the biggest and nastiest mosquitos in the world. However, these plants are not very common for people to grow there. Maybe they should try though. They would go very well on summer cottages and campgrounds. Thanks for the tips!

I have tried lemon grass as a skin repellent and it works pretty well. Lavender next to the house is also a great idea to avoid insects flying in.

This is such a fantastic post! Living in Spain, when I take my dog to the field, I get bitten alive (although I’m one of the lucky ones and bites don’t bother me) and I worry about my dog. I can’t start planting these plants in the local fields (haha!) but I will definitely be bookmarking this post for when I have a garden (hopefully very soon!). Thank you 🙂

What a helpful post about a problem that is so generic and must be looked into when outdoors. Some of these natural remedies and repellents is a great way to go. Never thought Lavender was a repellent as well. Another unknown yet helpful one is garlic! Thanks for sharing.

This is the perfect post for me Nicole, as I always get eaten alive by mosquitoes! In Italy we have plenty of sage, rosemary and basil, so I’m so happy to know there are natural remedies I can use to ward them off. Citronella sounds lovely too; will be looking to get some.
