Talking about Glamp Out, did you know there’s such a thing as International Glamping Weekend? Yes, apparently that happens every year. Nothing needs awareness like the cause of glamping, right?

But as many readers of this site may agree, I don’t need a designated weekend for an excuse to go camping. I do, however, always look for ways I can make our camp outs special! And often that comes in the form of some “glamping” elements.

Glamping?

For starters, what is glamping? In short, glamping is “glamourous camping.” It means to be out in nature but to keep the roughing it to a minimum.

Glamping means nice sheets, rugs, romantic lighting, fine food, and an air of sophistication.

It is the juxtaposition of luxury and wide open spaces, soft pillow topped beds and brushy, untamed plains.

There are degrees of glamping….

The great thing about camping, glamorous or not, is that you are required to pare life down to the simplest of things–what’s absolutely necessary for existence. Glamping adds in the luxurious bits of life, like fine food, dreamy sleeping conditions, and beautiful decor.

You can make your camping experience a glamping experience in these five quick and easy steps. I’ve selected these because they are do-able for a short weekend getaway. Have fun with it!

Glamp Out Tips

Pic 6Lighting

Get a campsite with electricity and string lights around the entrance to your tent and nearby trees. Even better over a table where you’re preparing food.

This is a fun opportunity to experiment. You can use white Christmas lights, twinkle lights, lanterns, or colored. Use red lights if you plan on star gazing so your eyes can adjust. Give your glamp out a great look at night.

Fine Food

Now is the time to go to Central Market or Whole Foods and treat yourself. Fine wines, Advanced S’More Making, Irish oatmeal with fresh fruit and nuts for breakfast, good coffee, etc! Arrange an assortment of fancy cheeses on a cutting board for appetizers. What about zucchini pancakes as a side dish? Sounds yummy to me.

Nice Bedding & Air Mattress

Make a real bed for yourself, with sheets, pillow, and blanket. Don’t use a sleeping bag. Pack your nice pajamas. Note: do not use an air mattress in winter, it wicks away heat and will leave you very cold in the middle of the night.

Have fun with it! I don’t think I’m alone in feeling that half the fun of going out to a nice dinner is getting to dress up, am I right? Same goes for glamping!

One of my biggest problems with the established stereotype of outdoorswomen is that we are a subset of women, a group of folks who are grungey and live in a tree. Au contraire mon frère. We are the girl next door. Coworkers, aunts, moms, and girlfriends. We snapchat, we wear heels, we wear make up, etcetera. So why change when we go camping?

Colorful Rug

Take a small (no larger than 3×5) rug to lay at the entrance to your tent, either inside or outside, whichever you prefer.

Of course, the best decoration–and one you can rarely get at home–is the backdrop. Nothing can compare to a luxurious little tent in the midst of a beautiful landscape. The main attraction for any glamp out.

LOVE the idea of bringing string lights and an air mattress with lots of pillows. Love the idea of finding a luxury glamping resort that has done it all for me even better. This has inspired me to glamp for sure, can’t go wrong with wine and smores!

I wonder if we add 1 or 2 things of the list we can say we go glamping. Haha… It’s easy to put string of lights or a nice rug, or even sleep on an air mattress for some people. But I prefer to go glamping without preparing anything by myself though.

This is such an interesting post. We have never been glamping as we usually find ourselves doing dispersed camping, but I cant tell you how many times we have invited our friends camping and they say “we’ll go if you’re glamping!” Honestly, glamping looks fun! I think the lights and rug definitely make the difference in making it a cozy experience. Wouldn’t mind trying this one day or finding one of those resorts to set it all up for us.

We used to camp a lot .. basic camping in California with big groups of friends. But one time we went up to the Kern river for a holiday weekend and one of my friends brought a blow up mattress, and little mats to have just outside her tent, and a little portable toilet tent so she didn’t have to go to the toilet block in the middle of the night. We made fun of her, called her a princess! Next camping trip … we all has mattresses and mats! Just cuz it’s camping, doesn’t mean you have to rough it!

Glamping is a good word to define glamourous outdoor camping. Looking at the photos, everything is so luxurious and fully furnished interior. If money is not a problem and fits your lifestyle, this is definitely a great option.

Glamping is fun in a lot of ways. There are some sites here in India too, by the river and in the woods but with a little bit of luxury as you describe. The food and the bed taken care of but the rest depends on how much one is willing to shell out. I like that little bit of roughing out. So tend to go for the little frugal ones.

Now this is my kind of glamping! I’m more of a glamper than camper and so appreciate these tips. Lighting a colourful rug definitely do make a difference as does the food and wine of course. I can’t wait to visit our next glamping site!

Glamping sounds like such a great experience. I must admit I have yet to do it! The great safari lodges of Africa sound amazing! I love your tips for turning a normal campsite into a glamping site, they make it sound so easy. I love adding lights to any outdoor setting and would love to experiment with some colored lanterns. It’s amazing how much little things like a rug or backdrop can totally transform the experience. You have convinced me that glamping is something I need to do soon, whether its at a resort like the ones you mentioned or the next time I stay at a state park.

I love the idea of turning regular camping into a glamp-like experience. Taking some great gourmet food would certainly make me feel like it was a little different than the normal camping fare. Some soft sheets on an air mattress and I might even try this! I have always wanted to try glamping. Maybe I will start with one of the resorts you provided.
