Unplug yourself from technology

Staying connected to the latest updates in your areas of interest is perfectly fine. Any college student has at least a smartphone and a laptop. Such devices help them work on various projects and stay connected with their network of friends. However, you will also need to take a break from time to time. Camping is the perfect solution to unplug yourself from technology and leave your smartphone aside. It is the ideal solution to stay away from stress and daily buzz. Discovering Mother Nature is one of the most relaxing activities that any college student should try at least once in his or her life.

Spending time in nature helps your brain’s health

Students have a lot of stress in their lives. They are constantly under pressure, working on various projects, staying attentive in class, and putting efforts to obtain the best grades in class. Apart from acing all of their tests, they should also try to be good friends and stay socially active. Too much stress, isn’t it? You can eliminate all the pressure from your cognitive function and help your brain recover in the middle of nature. Walking for a couple of hours on the mountain or spending a night in the forest can help you regenerate your psychological function and boost your memory. Moreover, by doing all these activities together with a bunch of friends will accelerate the recovery process of your brain.

Excellent relaxation on a budget

When you are a student, one of the most common problems that appear is the lack of money. Every college student knows how difficult it is to have a limited budget and still look for ideas to have fun. In comparison to having a vacation once a year and save money for 365 days, going camping once every two-three weeks is both relaxing and extremely cost-effective. How much does a camping escape cost? You will need around $15 per night for renting a spot to install your tent. Furthermore, you will spend $40 to buy a decent tent to spend your nights in nature. Apart from the tent and renting the place to install it, you will also need something to eat and drink. However, all these together won’t cost you as much as going on a vacation. Plus, you should also take into consideration that you pay only once for the tent.

Spend quality time with people you love

One of the golden rules of camping is that you should never go alone on such adventures. Why? The first reason is that apart from being fun, camping can be also a bit dangerous. You will go to a mountain and spend the night in the middle of a forest. Thus, you will need your friends next to you and protect each other in case of something. On the other hand, this is a great opportunity to spend time with your friends without being disturbed by phones or laptops. Moreover, spending time with friends in a different scenario than usual will help you know each other better and understand if you can rely on each other or not.

Learn more about yourself

Spending time in the silence of nature will help you find more about yourself. As we already mentioned, camping helps you get out of stress and relax. Therefore, this is the right moment when you can analyze how your life looks until now, what you have achieved, and what are your goals for the future. Moreover, spending time with friends and talking about various topics in a relaxing environment will help you discover more about what you really like and change your perspective over certain ideas. Going camping occasionally will give you enough time to think about yourself and decide whether you should pursue certain hobbies and activities. In addition, the time spent in nature will revigorate your brain and help you concentrate better on what interests you the most.

Final thoughts

Camping is a memorable experience that you shouldn’t miss at least once in your college life. In addition, this is an activity which you should spend with your loved ones and build together with them some of the best memories in your life. Camping can be such a fun activity to bond with your friends. For example, you can ask for some of the best paper writing help to prepare some thank you notes for your friends and show them how much you appreciate them for being in your life. Finally, camping is an activity which won’t empty your pockets. It is the perfect combination of cost-effectiveness and memorable experiences. If you add to this list the advantage that it is extremely beneficial for your brain’s health, then you have no excuse to give it a try.

I wish I had done more camping when I was in college. I didn’t discover a love for camping until I had kids of my own and wanted THEM to unplug.

I would love to go camping when I was in college, and now that you highlighted great reasons to do so. However, I had a job as well and was juggling between the university and all the material I had to learn and work.

I never thought of going to camping when I was in college nor I had time to spare for my friends. Was too busy with my studies and my part time job. Now when I am a mother, I so wish I would have gone to camping that time. It would have helped me in so many ways but I am sure there will be a day when I would plan a camping trip with my friends

A really great post. I remember some of my best college days were when my friends and I used to go camping together. I completely agree with unplugging ourself with all kinds of social media platforms and to appreciate the natural beauty that so many of us never acknowledge. I find it really helpful for my mental health whenever I cut myself out of the Hub-bub and blend with nature.

Those are all GREAT reasons. It is especially budget-friendly for students. And honestly, I need to disconnect sometimes, too. I hope lots of college kids consider going – it is good for the brain! <3

This is actually part of my list( though I’m not college anymore) – to bring my family to a camping especially that kids this days don’t want to go out anymore and just want to stay in their roooms for gadgets. This is one great family bonding in the making.

The best summer job I had while a college student was being a camp counselor. I had only 2 hours off per day (I was on duty with my little charges the other 22 lol), and I loved nothin more than to go off hiking and exploring the camps trails by myself. It was so good to be off by myself and just be able to THINK/let my mind wander where it would.

When we were in college camping was the most famous thing among youngsters. But as technology as invaded our lives, people don’t want to go for nature outings or camping. But you have raised a beautiful point for going for camping trips while in college as it creates the special bond among the friends. Also being in nature away from technology is perfect relaxation for mind and body.

Oh how I wish i did this when I was in college. However, even my weekends back then were filled with schoolwork (I have a degree in Zoology). My children did enjoy camping trips when they were in college, so at least I am happy with that. 🙂

i love these and agree a 100% . I do wish I HAD gone camping , I mean proper camping. I have certainly taken a lot of trips but never camping. But then our time didn’t even have the pressures of social media. So , there wasn’t the need to unplug, which is important.

I absolutely agree. Some of the best memories I have are of time spent with friends outdoors. Camping is a great way to travel on a budget which is perfect for students. And like you said perfect to clear the brain and spend time disconnected from technology. And as young adults learning about themselves is always important. I am going to share this with my daughters in the hope that as they get older and go off to college they take this advice and go camping or spend time outdoors with their friends.

I never went camping in college, but you definitely made me wish I would have! I can definitely see the benefits of unplugging from technology and textbooks and spending some time in nature. Even post college I really like the benefit of getting quality time with friends and family without the distraction of our phones.

I went camping many years ago when I was in university and it was a good experience. Nature is one of the best stress relievers and does me so good to be outdoors. Switching off from phones and internet every now and again is always a good thing!
